Website:  Backyard Rotisserie Chicken in South Riding, VA

Mario is the new owner of Backyard Rotisserie Chicken in South Riding, VA.  He has been cooking professional for over 30 years, including opening this restaurant in 2009.  He was able to buy it recently and is now running the restaurant with his family.

The biggest challenge in updating Mario’s website was that the previous domain name was no longer available.  So Mario chose www.backyardrotisserie.com as the new URL. We moved quickly to publish the basic restaurant website with phone number, delivery hours and photos.

The restaurant already had good reviews on Google, Yelp, YP, FourSquare and TripAdvisor.  We worked diligently to get all these websites using the new domain name.  Several old Facebook pages existed.  We requested ownership of the one with the most reviews.  Once this was in place, we requested that Facebook combine the pages.  High quality photos are important to any restaurant business.  We uploaded new photos to the social media profiles listed above.

Once the website was posted and the social media profiles updated, we had to find the best way to post the Backyard Rotisserie Chicken menu online in multiple places.  Here are some of the options I tried:

  1. I considered FoodPress, recommended on several blogs.  It has been well reviewed and is a popular choice on CodeCanyon.  However, it did not provide any rich snippets, which I would expect in a premium plugin.  It also seemed that I would need to buy an add-on for $23.50 to have social media links for a single menu item.  Really?
  2. I started an account at Open Table.  You can join for free.  The free version does not allow photo uploads, which are important to my client.  And really to every restaurant.  So that was a no.
  3. SinglePlatform is powerful and able to publish menus to the most social platforms.  However, at $99/month, it did not fit into the budget.
  4. I am currently testing Get Found, a goDaddy service, for 3 months.  It has also been known as locu.com.  I entered the menu manually in the goDaddy interface.  It published well to many social media  profiles, including Yelp and Facebook.  The Google page menu is still having issues picking up old data.  Unfortunately, the goDaddy support is not experienced with this product.  I will update this post as testing continues!

Next Steps

The challenge of a brand new website is the low authority it starts with.  As time passes, we look to move up in authority by encouraging links from neighborhood associates and loyal diners.
